Three kids drown

Three school children drowned while swimming in the Nilaweli beach in Trincomale today, the police said.

According to the police the three boys, aged 16, had gone to Trincomlaee from Nuwera Eliya on a trip.

The three children were among four children who went for a swim in the Nilaweli beach today. A sudden gush of water pulled the children deep in the sea.

The Navy and police had attempted to save the four boys but their efforts proved futile.

One child was saved and is in hospital in serious condition while the other three had drowned. Their bodies were recovered.
